Larry designs software solutions for clients and sets design patterns and coding standards for developers to use. With a strong background in content management, web design, database administration and publishing, he also oversees other developers. He has done extensive research on emerging technologies and coding best-practices, and has many years of experience as a consultant. He received his B.A. in English from Kent State University. He used to bring his dog to work but when that was no longer possible he put his technical skills to use, rigging a web cam at home to keep a remote eye on her.
What is your favorite website and why?
The New York Times. Besides being a source for news, they have great blogs, interesting health and fitness articles, and insightful columnists. On Sunday, I always look for the Modern Love and Diagnoses pieces.
What book is currently on your night stand?
There are two books that have been on my night stand for some time. At the end of the day, when not able to sleep or needing something to send me to bed with happy thoughts, I grab either Maria Kalman's Principals of Uncertainty (http://tinyurl.com/me9kb3) or Monica Sheehan's Be Happy: A Little Book to Help You Live a Happy Life (http://tinyurl.com/nran8k).
What would you rather be doing?
Moving...up and out of my chair... walking, running, swimming, or biking it doesn't matter, just as long as there is movement.
What is on your to do list?
Write something for the SCK web site... almost done.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
Some year soon I want to follow the Tour de France for a week or two. That would take me to France, Italy and Spain.
What was your weirdest job?
I have had a lot of jobs but can't think of any that were "weird". Some jobs were loud and physically challenging, like working at a large printing press, stacking newspaper inserts on pallets as they came off a huge German press and some jobs were quiet and sedentary, like working in the stacks at the Kent State library.
