I was watching a crew rowing team glide down the river and reflecting how graceful they were, eight people rowing in perfect sync. I have rowed with a crew team and if one person is slightly off everyone on the boat struggles or dumps the boat. I think a social media marketing campaign is very similar to rowing, all the components need to work together or you will sink.

Computers can be funny things. The other day, a friend of mine asked if could turn some old VHS tapes of hers into a DVD. Sure, I said. I have a desktop computer that functions as a TV. That would work perfectly. (There are rabbit ears plugged into this computer. This amuses me greatly.) My friend gave me her tape, and her VCR, and I set to work. It didn't go so well.

Then I study the schematic and research competitors sites. I stay current on best practices, usability and accessibility in design. Have you ever done anything and thought “oh, (insert expletive) I should have known better”? I did that recently when signing up for an account with one of the social media sites. I won’t say who since they are not the only ones who are guilty of this behavior.
I use Firefox as my browser and one of the things I particularly Iove about it is all the great plug-ins that are available. There are some that I now consider essential to my work doing web development, such as Firebug. The unfortunate thing about the plug-ins is that they all take up real estate in the browser window making the area that shows websites smaller. However, I am willing to sacrifice some of that for something that is going to make my life easier.
